Frequently asked questions

What activities qualify for Fuel Tax Credits in Australia?

Fuel Tax Credits let registered businesses claim back some of the fuel excise paid on fuel used in heavy vehicles over 4.5 tonnes travelling on public roads (at a partial rate), in vehicles and machinery operating off public roads, and in auxiliary or power take-off equipment. The ATO sets rates per litre by fuel type and activity, and updates them periodically.

What records does the ATO require to support a Fuel Tax Credit claim?

Claims need records showing how much fuel was used, the activity it was used for, and the vehicle or equipment involved — including the split between on-road and off-road use, which is taxed differently. Accurate activity and location records are central to a defensible claim.

How does IntelliTrac support Fuel Tax Credit claims?

IntelliTrac records on-road versus off-road travel using geofenced site boundaries, auxiliary and PTO equipment activity, and odometer data. That activity record supports the apportionment the ATO expects and provides evidence for audits.
